What I won’t invest in

I have not put many restrictions on myself regarding which companies, industries or sectors I choose not to invest in. However, there are some that I will probably not invest in. Please note that I do say “probably”. I do not rule anything out and my opinions and strategies might very well change as time progresses. However, these are the industries and sectors I will not invest in as of today. I am not passing judgment on anyone choosing to invest in these industries and products, I simply state that I prefer not to.

Weapons

Companies that primarily make weapons will probably never be a part of my portfolio.

Tobacco

I do not smoke regularly, and while I have nothing against people that do, I feel that the disadvantages of the tobacco industry outweigh any benefits. That said, I do enjoy smoking my pipe on occasion. I will probably not include companies like Altria or Philip Morris to my portfolio. I have nothing against investing in sin stocks (silly name by the way), I do own alcohol related stocks after all, but I’ll probably not go into tobacco.

Betting

Now this is an industry that I have feelings against. I simply do not like the business model of betting and online casinos etc. I will not invest in those.

Cryptocurrency

I realise there are people making a lot of money on crypto, but it just doesn’t appeal to me.

Gold

I do not want to invest in gold either, even if many regard it as a hedge against the market crashing and they keep it in their portfolio to balance things out. However, I do not like the fact that there is no real value to it. Companies will (hopefully) provide value to customers and actually make money. Gold just sits there in all its shininess and it does nothing.
